Why is nutrition and portion size so confusing?

I know someone trying to get healthy and lose weight should control portions and eat about every 3 hours,plenty of water and veggies and fruit. According to MyPyramid.gov the daily recommended amount for a 1200 cal diet is: 4 ozs whole grains 1 1/2 cups veggies 1cup fruit 2 cups low fat mil 3 ozs lean meat. So how can you eat more veggies and fruit when limited to 1 cup?

When it says to limit your fruits or veggies to 1 cup, it means that a single serving is 1 cup. But you get more than 1 serving per day. So really you’ll be eating 5 to 7 servings of fruits and veggies per day. That’s a lot!

And when it comes to veggies… it’s perfectly alright to eat more than 5 servings per day. Just as long as you don’t limit your diet to only veggies and try to have a balanced diet, you’ll be fine.
